District Announcements
Arcadia Unified Gives Every Student a Chromebook

Each of the nearly 10,000 students in the Arcadia Unified School District now has their own Chromebook. All middle school and high school students can even bring their Chromebooks home to use. The 1:1 Student to Technology device program began three years and was fully implemented on the first day of school this year.

Right At School Informational Meeting
The Right At School Community Informational Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Holly Avenue Elementary School Auditorium. Right At School is the new before and after-school program that we will be transitioning to in January 2017. Read more here.

Basketball Season

The 210 League Basketball season is beginning! Dana will have four teams: 8 girls, 8 boys, 6/7 girls, and 6/7 boys. There is an informational meeting at lunch on Monday, 10/24 in room 2. Please CLICK HERE to fill out a form online to sign up for tryouts. Tryouts will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, 10/26. 6th and 7th graders should wear white and 8th graders should wear black.
Costume Contest
On Monday, October 31, ASB will be hosting a costume contest at lunch. All contestants must sign up in the office by the end of break on Monday, October 31 to be entered in the contest. There will be four categories in which to participate and each student may only sign up in one category:
1. Most disguised costume (no masks)
2. Most creative/homemade costume  
3. Funniest costume
4. Spookiest costume

Winners from each of the four categories will receive a gift card to a local establishment such as Target, In-N-Out, or Yogurtland.

Participants should meet outside the office at the beginning of lunch for instructions and information regarding judging. Our judges will be Mr. Dima, Mrs. Hamblen, and Mrs. Hoffman.
Halloween Dance

Get ready for the spookiest afternoon of your lives– the annual Halloween Dance is coming! The Dana Dance of the Living Dead will be taking place on Friday, October 28 from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the MPR. There will be refreshments, a DJ, a photo booth, and some really spooky decorations! All students are welcome to attend. Dance tickets are $5 dollars each and will be sold at the Ship Shop during lunch and after school before the dance. Anyone who purchases a dance ticket will also be automatically entered into a raffle for a Halloween gift basket filled with goodies valued at $30. The photo booth will be located in room 2 and will cost $1 for two photo strips. Students planning to use the photo booth should book a time in advance by signing up wtih Mrs. Nelson in room 10. Students attending the dance may not leave before 5 p.m. without a parent's note that they must give to the office on the morning of the dance. The dance ends at 5:00 p.m. so please arrange a prompt ride home. Come to the dance if you want to have a spooky, scary time! Hope to see you there!

Catalina Medication Pick-Up

Attention all 7th grade students who went on the Catalina trip! If you turned in any medicine to take on the trip, your parents must pick it up in the school office as soon as possible. The health office is unable to store your medicines long term due to the upcoming Pali and OSS trips.  Unclaimed medicines will be disposed of in a couple of weeks if not claimed. If you have any questions please see the nurse in the health office.

Poster Contest:
Congratulations to Avari Wang for winning the Red Ribbon Week Poster contest! She will receive a free dance ticket to Friday's Dance of the Living Dead. The top entries will be displayed on the library windows starting today.

Monday, October 24: Decoration Day (during Advisory)
ASB students will bring a bag full of red ribbons so that each student may tie one to a blue pole in the main campus hallways.  

Tuesday, October 25: Reach Out To Others Day (during Advisory)
ASB students will deliver a bag full of stickers to each advisory for students to wear.  Students should use this day to connect with others- those who have already committed to a drug-free lifestyle and those who have not.

Wednesday, October 26: Wear Red Day
Winners of the Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest will be announced and posters will be displayed on the Library windows.  ASB is encouraging students and staff to all wear RED to school to support Red Ribbon Week!

Thursday, October 27: Recognition Day (during period 5)
ASB students will deliver a bag of ribbons to each fifth period class for students to wear.

Friday, October 28: Celebration Day (during Advisory)
ASB students will bring around a bag with wrist bands for each student to wear today. There is also a Halloween-themed dance after school.

Monday, October 31: Costume Monday
Students and staff are encouraged to celebrate Halloween and come to school dressed in a Halloween costume.

Playoffs for Fall Sports

Come cheer on the Dana Mariners' football and volleyball teams as they battle it out in the 210 league! Playoffs begin 10/18 and end on 10/27. Let's get LOUD supporting our teams! Go Mariners!

Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring begins on Tuesday, September 20 and will run all year. It takes place in the Dana library on Mondays from 3:05-3:50, Tuesdays from 3:15-4:00, and Thursdays from 3:05-3:50. Peer tutoring is free and you do not need to sign up in advance. Just show up ready to learn! For more information and to view the flier, CLICK HERE.
Pali Leadership Camp

On November 7, 2016, Dana’s eighth grade students and their teachers will depart for three days of leadership training in the San Bernadino mountains! If you still haven’t signed up yet, it is not too late, but all forms must be completed and payments received IN FULL by October 6. Health forms come directly from Pali after an initial payment has been received.  

When: November 7 - 9, 2016
Cost: $315 all-inclusive; must be paid in full by October 6

Outdoor Science School

Attention 6th graders- OSS is fast approaching! We are going back to Arrowhead Ranch for one of the most memorable experiences you will have while here at Dana. We leave on Monday, November 14 and return Friday, November 18. The camp is $315 and payments are due by Friday, October 21. Turn in all money to Ms. Tan in the office. See your science teachers for any additional questions. Don't miss out on this amazing camp experience!
